Soglio | Hotel Palazzo Salis
The current building of the Hotel Palazzo Salis was built in 1630 as a residence for Battista de Salis, a member of a patrician family resident for centuries. The palace, transformed into an inn 150 years ago, offers a unique setting and enchants with its 16 rooms, magnificent lounges and exotic garden with a rare sequoia tree.
Arriving in Soglio by foot is particularly beautiful: the Panoramic Path ends here, which from Casaccia descends to Soglio on the southern slopes. Impressive paths lead from Soglio to its fallow areas such as Däir (to the west) or Tombal, Plän Vest and Cadrin (to the north-east). From here begins the crossing of the Pass da la Duana towards the Avers Valley.
At the same time Soglio is spoiled by the sun creating an unusual flora, well protected from cool breezes by the old walls. Just below the town there are numerous chestnut woods; the chestnut was brought to Bregaglia by the Romans.
Pontresina | Gasthaus & Hotel Berninahaus
The first historical references date back to 1515, when the "Bernina houses" located at 2046 m above sea level on the rise of the Bernina Pass, were used for agriculture and as an inn. These were used by carters traveling to the silver mines of Val Minor to rest.
Renovated in 2006, however, it has not completely lost its charm with its rustic rooms all made of wood in 100% Engadine style.
From the Gasthaus & Hotel Berninahaus there are hiking and cycling excursions along suggestive glaciers and mountain massifs, romantic mountain lakes, fragrant alpine meadows and woods on perfectly maintained and signposted routes. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the Diavolezza ski lift. Reachable both by bus and train at the Bernina Suot stop which is located in front of the Hotel.
